Amanda Blackburn’s Trial Begins
Amanda Blackburn’s Legacy
Tragedy struck the Blackburn home in an unimaginable way when Davey lost his pregnant wife of seven years, Amanda, during a home invasion. Amanda was shot three times in their home on November 10th, 2015, passing away in the hospital just 24 hours later. (see Amanda’s Celebration of Life service below)
After Amanda’s passing, Davey felt called to minister to those who are hurting and broken. His message is simple, profound, yet beautiful all the same: Nothing Is Wasted. Davey has experienced firsthand what it looks like for the Lord to lead with His unconditional love.
Join Us in Prayer
Now, after 7 long years of Amanda’s case being tied up in the judicial system (including two mistrials this year) the trial begins today, September 19th and will last through the duration of this week.
The trial has been shifted from a jury trial to a bench trial, which means there will be no jury. This is because after we had two mistrials this year due to tainted jury pools, the defense moved to not have a jury. After consulting with the prosecution, we also feel like this is the best course of action in order to actually get Amanda's case to go to trial.
As we step into this week, we ask that you all be in prayer for some very specific things ...
First of all, please pray The Lord will give all of us supernatural strength. The prosecution is anticipating that court proceedings will be Monday - Thursday this week from about 9am - 6pm. We know from the few brief hearings we’ve attended, this will be extremely taxing emotionally, spiritually, and physically. As we relive the events of November 10th and 11th and as new details we were previously unaware of come to light, we will need the guidance, protection, and empowerment of the Holy Spirit over our minds and hearts. This is the first time we will all be in the same room as the man who is standing trial for her murder. Please pray for a Jesus-filled compassion and grace as we face him for the first time today.
Secondly, please pray for unity for our family. The enemy loves to use situations like this to wedge his way into relationships to cause tension and division. In situations that are emotionally charged it’s very easy to channel those emotions on the people you love. Please pray the Lord gives us an uncommon grace for each other and for others.
Finally, pray that the The Holy Spirit is felt by all (judge, counsel members, perpetrators, gallery, and media) in such a tangible and palpable way that everyone present KNOWS something is different about this case. Courtrooms are a holding place for the darkest and most evil acts to be put on display. That sounds just like the kind of place our God loves to invade. Please pray for that kind of supernatural breakthrough this week. Through the last 7 years Jesus has been put on display in Amanda’s story and we’re praying this is another mighty demonstration of that. He is who she lived for, and He is who she would want honored in her life, death, and legacy.
All I can think of as I write this is the disciples in Acts 4 who, when facing imprisonment, rather than praying for safety, prayed for boldness to declare the Gospel in the face of danger and persecution. While we’re certainly not facing persecution, we are facing a spiritual battle that could easily cause us to shrink back in fear and timidness. The Lord has instead given us a spirit of power, love and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Please pray that His Spirit manifests these things in us this week.
Thank you for your prayers,
